EXTRAVERSION and pcmcia placement
After talking to Randolph on IRC, my mind is a bit clearer.
I don't know if I agree with Xu that -ide is or is not a flavor, but
he is correct in saying that you would never want the stock 2.2.14
kernel and the -ide version.
The whole issue is whether EXTRAVERSION is set or not. Brian, you
should *not* have to argue with the kernel-image maintainer -- just
follow their lead. So if they set EXTRAVERSION, as Randolphs -idepci
and -compact flavors do, then use /lib/modules/2.2.14-<flavor>. If
they don't as -ide is, then conflict against the stock kernel and use
/lib/modules/2.2.14 .
I have no patience at this point with theoretical arguments about how
things should be. Just adapt the pcmcia-modules to fit the current
reality as dictated by the kernel-image maintainer, please!
