Or whatever format you've told gpm to repeat. See the -R option
in the gpm man page.
And, actually, this should be no longer necessary. Now that most
devices support multiple opens, both gpm and X should use /dev/psaux
(or whatever port your mouse connects to). /dev/gpmdata can be
depricated.

I don't think there's any need for a warning. After a full install, the
mouse should never move erratically. It sounds like something got
misconfigured. Now, was it you that did that, or was it the installer...?
