The problem I had with slink was that the additional room required for
DAC960 required me to remove other support. While that was fine for me
because I could drop support for devices I didn't have, it is not good for
a general Debian install.

I have just joined the list in the last day or so, has potato finally
split the 1440 disks into root and boot? That would solve the problem
since there would be ample room. Simply allowing modules to be loaded from
teh modules disk would help.
