It is easy to predict that, for floating point operations, your Athlon XP
1700 will beat your 8xp166 cluster rather easily, I estimate by a factor
os 2. For a benchmark, try Linpack, it is pretty much the universal code
for this sort of thing, and it includes a parallelization benchmark. The
code is available and you can learn everything about it here:
