mid-term report on the progress of diskless

Hello,

I am working (slowly) on diskless package.
I have the basic stuff working, and I guess it should work, but I have 
not gotten around to testing it in real-case situations.

Please note that I have not updated the documentation yet.
If you would like to help me in documentation (I'm not good at
