It isn’t required, but I would recommend you send an email to

Debian Backports <debian-backports@lists.debian.org>

announcing that you have backported nxt-firmware and why those running stable 
might be interested in it.  You don’t want to do this for every backport 
update, but it is considered good manners the first time a package enters 
backports.
