I fail to see why it’s *Debian* backports’ job to facilitate
that, especially as it’s got a rat tail’s worth (or a few of
them) of dependencies.

Debian has been called unfree by RMS for less. Not that I’ll
base my arguments on anything RMS said, just as a curiosum.
