It's intended to fill the niche of `running stable quite successfully,
but you need a couple of newer packages`.

That is rather different from `running oldstable... need a couple of
new packages` (or indeed, oldoldstable). When running stable there is
no newer stable you can use, which is not the case for oldold or
oldstable, in that case there is no tradeoff between "stable" vs
"testing" since there is a newer stable.
