Managed to do it for the stretch-based MX Linux:

Changes: 

bumped up to 1000 Hz kernel frequency from 250 since MX is aimed at
desktop users instead of servers.

Headers will depend on libelf-dev to fix builds of Virtual Box and other
out-of-tree drivers...not fixed upstream yet.

Added amd-fam17h-microcode.patch to support the new amd64-microcode
loading to Ryzen processors.

Work with and depend on gcc-6 instead of gcc-7.
