First the general observation:

emacs24-24.2+1-2 from Debian sid installs and runs fine in Wheezy
(although to be honest I'm not 100% sure what dependencies it dragged
in). I use it daily with no notable problems. I don't use that many
emacs packages, but at least auctex and org-mode are fine.

With respect to notmuch:

I happen to know 24.21-2 works fine with notmuch since that's what I use
upstream to test notmuch.

Your mileage may vary on hurd-i386

Complaints about notmuch on the emacs-snapshot packages should probably
go to the notmuch mailing list, or conceivably to the BTS, but see
also http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=677900
