Just run testing by itself. Don't go upgrading every few days (in fact, I
keep an eye on DSAs and avoid ever running a whole-system upgrade), and rely
on package dependencies to keep everything in a sensible shape.
Of course, that doesn't work for corporate desktops or any other situation
where the acronym "SOE" gets bandied about, but that's hardly a situation
where unfettered use of backports is going to work well, either.
