I believe feature patches are somewhat out of scope for the backports
archive, no? Better to get the modules into packages in non-free, if
that's possible (I haven't been following the nonfree firmware debate
recently).

Certainly I would be worried about packages with non-free firmware
(as decreed by the Debian project) hitting backports main.
