boot problem volume two: linux-image-xen-vserver

Hi,

linux-image-2.6.16-2-xen-vserver-686 version 2.6.16--18~bpo.1 does not
boot:

(XEN) Guest stack trace from esp=c0331eec:
...
(XEN) Domian 0 crashed: rebooting machine in 5 seconds.

An older version of this package worked with the same configuration.

file /boot/initrd... says Linux Compressed ROM File system data...

I also tried linux-image-2.6.18-1-xen-vserver-686 from
http://people.backports.org/~tretkowski/upload/linux-2.6/ and it didn't
boot either.
