xfce4 upgrade problem
I've been using until now the backport of xfce4.2.2 from corsac.net .
When I try to upgrade to the backports.org version this happens -
dort:~# apt-get -t sarge-backports install xfce4
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
Depends: xfwm4-themes (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be
Depends: xfce4-panel (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be
Depends: xfdesktop4 (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be installed
Depends: xffm4 (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be installed
Depends: xfce4-utils (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be
Depends: xfce4-session (>= 4.2.3-1) but 4.2.3-0bpo2 is to be installed
I think the problem may have something to do with the xfce4
metapackage. All the other new xfce4 packages are at 4.2.3-0bpo2, but
the metapackage is not -
dort:~# apt-cache policy xfce4
200 http://www.backports.org sarge-backports/main Packages
*** 4.2.2 0
500 http://ftp.au.debian.org stable/main Packages
I was able to get around the problem (in a way) by changing the
pin-priority of all backports.org packages to '999'
in /etc/apt/preferences, then running 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. This
installed all the new packages but I am of course left with a broken
It looks like it may be safe to remove 'xfce4' but I haven't tried it
yet. Although doing a 'dist-upgrade' gave me the new xfce4 desktop it's
obviously not the most elegant way of going about it.
Shouldn't you be able to just run 'apt-get -t sarge-backports install
xfce4' and have it upgrade seamlessly? It did that with
'x-window-system-core' (xf86 > xorg) without any trouble...
