FWIW I have in my dnsmasq config:

dhcp-host=00:08:9b:8c:eb:40,set:qnap,qnap,infinite # TS-419P
dhcp-boot=tag:qnap,F_TS-419P_20131231_3.11,dagon,192.168.1.7

Where 00:08:9b:8c:eb:40 is the MAC address of the QNAP device and
dagon,192.168.1.7 is the tftp server machine (for some reason dnsmasq
required both the name and IP before it worked)

Of course getting that into a router's configuration might be tricky, I
don't know what a TP-Link is like in that regard.

Actually, U-boot is reflashing the kernel and initramfs from this image
and then rebooting normally. </pedant>
