Marvel MV78200 with Debian?

Hi Luke and *,

since today, two of my eighteen servers (NEC MH4500R) sounds not very
healthy anymore, so I have now the ultimate motivation to transform the
Marvel MV78200 into Debian Server (I want to build at least 30 servers
for my own use) with:

1) 2x GE Network
2) No On-Board-Memory but SO-Dimm
3) 4x SATA drives over the Marvel Port-Multiplier 88SM4140
    if eSATA works with it.
4) 8 SAS/SATA drives on each of the the two PCIe 4x ports
    using the 88SE6480 or 88RC8180 (Raid-On-Chip)

I will design 4) modular, to let the option open for the use of
inexpensive 4port SATA controllers or a mix.

I was ongoig to use my 4U Server Racks (they have left and right 3x 5"25
Sluots), but they are 680mm depth which is a little bit to heavy.

So I will use an APRAnorm 3U Universal Rack (360mm depth; 20-5036-30)
with place for up to twelve "2x SATA Racks" (they have the size of a 3"5
Floppy). And if I go even in small production, I get the Front and Rear
Plate as custom one...

For small servers (only three "2x SATA Racks") I could use the 1U Rack
(269-104 or 26-9200-00)

DO NOT TELL me to use the 1U Rack (20-5560-10) which has one 3"5 and one
5"25 in the front, because its depth of 560mm is inacceptable.

So my questions are now:

1) How good is the MV78200 supported by Debian?
I mean REALY by Debian (->DFSG)

2) What about the support of 88SE6480 or 88RC8180
    under 2.6.xx Kernels?

Please let me now as fast as possibel, I have already contacted
AVNET-MEMEC (my Distributor) plus Marvel and I am ongoing to sign the
next NDA to get the chips.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening
