QNAP TS-409 Raid 5 resync errors

After installing debian using Martin's instructions and updateing, I
built two raid5 devices: one w/ 1.5GB (md1) and the other w/ ~3TB (md0).

While rebuilding raid 5 on md0 on 4 Western Digtial WD10EADS 1TB I'm
encountering the following on md1

Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.040000] md1_resync D c020fd94
0 2887 2
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.050000] [<c020fa34>] (schedule
+0x0/0x3ac) from [<bf069de4>] (md_do_sync+0x224/0xad8 [md_mod])
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.050000] [<bf069bc0>] (md_do_sync
+0x0/0xad8 [md_mod]) from [<bf06bb68>] (md_thread+0x10c/0x128 [md_mod])
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.060000] [<bf06ba5c>] (md_thread
+0x0/0x128 [md_mod]) from [<c0056eb8>] (kthread+0x5c/0x94)
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.070000] r7:00000000 r6:bf06ba5c
r5:cfdd0a60 r4:c0990000
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.080000] [<c0056e5c>] (kthread
+0x0/0x94) from [<c0046360>] (do_exit+0x0/0x6a0)
Dec 23 12:10:01 utah kernel: [43103436.090000] r6:00000000 r5:00000000
r4:00000000

The rebuild on md1 has been delayed until the rebuild on md0 has
completed.

After both resyncs were reported successful I rebooted the system. The
kernel reports the presence of all four drives. However the first three
were brought up w/ 1.5GB/s and the fourth w/ apparently 3GB/s.

Running smartctl on the drives reports:
Warning! Drive Identity Structure error: invalid SMART checksum.
Warning! SMART Attribute Data Structure error: invalid SMART checksum.

Thereafter I ran 'smartctl -t short' on all four drives which result
with
SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1
Num Test_Description Status Remaining
LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Short offline Completed without error 00% 48
-

Furthermore no Reallocated_Sector_Ct, Seek_Error_Rate nor other apparent
errors have been observed.

The raid(s) are being constructed and bound to the system correctly
during booting. I've attached an excerpt of messages while resyncing and
booting, as well as a SMART log of a drive after running the short
version of the self-test.

Can someone localized the discrepancies I'm experiencing? I have no idea
if the problem is the sata_mv driver, raid5 driver, a general kernel
problem, a hardware problem w/ the TS-409 and/or if the problem lies w/
three of the four drives.

I'm also sending this mail to the first level support of the distributor
who configured and sold me the QNAP device.

Hoping someone can help...

John Holland
