Getting a more recent kernel

Hi all,
I run Debian on a Thecus N2100 and the kernel is 2.6.18-5-iop32x. I
wonder if there would be an easy way to upgrade to a more recent kernel
because I think I ran into this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/61235

I have an external 500GB USB HD and the FS keeps getting corrupted. The
disk is healthy (no bad blocks). After reading all the comments in that
thread and trying the possible solutions with no luck, I thought about
asking here.

Thanks for the help!
