problem setting up CUPS on NSLU2

Here is my system:
Debian/NSLU2, samsung ML-1710, cups ver 1.2.7
400 gb hd --> port 1
printer --> port 2

I used:
lpadmin -p samsung1710 -v usb:/dev/usb/lp0 -E -m /usr/share/cups/model/samsung/ML-1710 (I downloaded ML-1710 from samsung.com, also tried ml1710.ppd from splix, same result)
then
/etc/init.d/cupsys restart
(there is no error in /var/log/cups/error_log)
lpr /etc/fstab -p samsung1710
nothing happened

"lpc status" shows
samsung1710
       printer is on device 'usb' speed -1
       queuing is enabled
       printing is enabled
       1 entries
       daemon present

"lpstat -p" shows
printer samsung1710 now printing samsung1710-1. enabled since ....
          Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds ....

All cables are connected and printer is on (not in standby mode).

I have been reading all over the documents on the internet but still have no clue. Can any one help me? Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Martin
