When attempting to install Magento 1.5.1, the install fails after selecting the localization settings.

Error log from Apache:

Install is performed on a clean virtual machine, using the testing ISO+repository, with PHP 5.4.4.2 and Apache 2.2.22.
Install is perfect on a Squeeze installation with PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze13 and Apache 2.2.16.
