The apache2 default configuration uses virtual hosts. Every virtual
host has its own Document root setting, overriding the global server
default. This works as intended
There is some documentation about the config layout in README.Debian
.gz. I would recommend that you don't use httpd.conf at all. For
settings outside the virtual hosts, use a file
/etc/apache2/conf.d/local-*. For settings of the virtual hosts, change
/etc/apache2/sites-available/* or create new virtual host files.
I am closing this bug report. If you have specific suggestions what to
add to README.Debian, please open new bug reports.
