Package: apache2-mpm-worker
Version: 2.0.49-1
Severity: normal

I have a strange error since a few days: Apache2 only writes to logfiles with the name "$filename.log.1" and not "$filename.log" (these are now null byte files)

This results in empty stats with Awstats (well, or is this an error of logrotate or awstats?)

Example listing:

$ ls -l /var/log/apache2/www.alternativ.net.log*
-rw-r-----    1 root     adm             0 2004-05-09 06:49 /var/log/apache2/www.alternativ.net.log
-rw-r-----    1 root     adm       6118076 2004-05-12 18:46 /var/log/apache2/www.alternativ.net.log.1

Most likely you have an error in your apache config so that the restart is
failing. Logrotate moves the logs before restarting apache, so if apache
can't restart it retains the file handle for the old log file.
Feel free to reopen this if you can prove it's an apache bug :-)
