As of the latest release, Apache immediately dies with the messages

[Tue Nov 11 18:01:43 2003] [crit] (38)Function not implemented: mod_rewrite: could not create rewrite_log_lock
Configuration Failed

if I have mod_rewrite enabled. (I tried explicitly setting
RewriteLock to a file in /var/lock/apache2, which is 0755
www-data:root, but it didn't make a difference.)
