You're quite right, after playing with it this early afternoon it now
doesn't seem
that I'm getting this error. Instead, apachectl configtest reports Syntax
OK, and I try
to start the process, but nothing.

Nothing in the error log, bar "[warn] pid file /var/run/apache.pid
overwritten -- Unclean
shutdown of previous Apache run?" and it just dies. Nothing in ps, nothing.
