Package: apache
Version: 1.3.19-1

OK, I installed apache on my Woody system by doing "apt-get install =
apache"
and after it was installed and the computer tried to start it, it
segfaulted. If I run "/etc/init.d/apache start" I get the following:

cyclops:~# /etc/init.d/apache start
/usr/sbin/apachectl: line 171: 18530 Segmentation fault $HTTPD
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
cyclops:~#=20

If I use gdb to trace it ("gdb /usr/sbin/apache", then "run -X",) it
segfaults in "ap_get_local_host()". Below is all of the output/etc. Also =
the
same thing happens if I just instruct gdb to "run" apache, but not "-X".
Setting the "ServerName" directive in the Apache config files doesn't =
seem
to help either.

cyclops:~# gdb /usr/sbin/apache

Some simple system stuff:

Linux cyclops 2.4.7-686-smp #1 SMP Sun Jul 22 14:00:21 EST 2001 i686 =
unknown
libc-2.2.3
Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) Debian/GNU
Apache built: Mar 26 2001 09:36:17

Everything else on my system seems to work fine. I can connect to the
internet and all, and I do most of my work through an SSH connection so =
I
don't see how apache's problem could be not being able to get a port or
something like that.

Hi,
unfortunatly I have no record on when this bug was fixed but now
apache does not segfault anymore in case it cannot resolve localhost but
it will exit with an appropriate error message.
Just for completeness I had to remove both /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf
in order to verify that the problem is not there anymore. (considering a
default nsswitch.conf)
