Subject: apache: Apache fails to run CGI's with symlink path
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.3.6
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=unknown-8bit

Package: apache
Version: 1.3.12-2.1
Severity: normal
Suppose we have Apache setup in the following way:
-defaults from clean install
-AddHandler cgi-script .cgi set in httpd.conf
-Options ExecCGI FollowSymlinks set for /home/*/public_html
Now, if I have a script "my.cgi" in ~/public_html it works well.
But if I have a symlink in public_html so that
sammakko:~/public_html$ ls -l
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 panupa panupa 19 loka=A0=A0 26 21:29 my.cgi =
-> ../myscripts/my.cgi
...then Apache will say "500 Internal server error" and in the error.log =
I get
[Thu Oct 26 21:31:31 2000] [error] [client 10.0.0.1] Premature end of =
script headers: /home/panupa/public_html/my.cgi
Ordinary files work well through a symlink path but the cgis seem to have=
problems.

This is a bug with using user CGIs outside of ~/public_html. It has
been solved by making suexec optional, so closing this bug.
