There is a formatting bug in rotatelogs.8. This paragraph:

       logfile
The path plus basename of the logfile. If logfile includes any Oth
erwise, the suffix .nnnn is automatically added and is the time at
              which the logfile was created.

should read:

       logfile
The path plus basename of the logfile. If logfile
includes any % characters, it is treated as a for-
mat string for strftime(3). Otherwise, the suffix
.nnnn is automatically added and is the time at
              which the logfile was created.

It's a simple, one-line patch:

83c83
< '%' characters, it is treated as a format string for \fIstrftime(3)\fP.
---
> \fB%\fP characters, it is treated as a format string for \fIstrftime(3)\fP.

I am closing this bug since it has been fixed sometime in the past.
Unfortunatly we don't know exactly when.
