At issue is working with modern drives that are now larger than 2TB that
require a gpt partition.

I think that currently this still is rather messy.

( Best work around - put your system on a pair of raided SSD using 0.90
metadata and boot off of these smaller drives - plant your large drive
at /home Or where ever ).

Does anyone know if this has changed?

I confirm that software RAID 1 with GPT and metadata version 1.2 is bootable on :

- Squeeze grub-pc (amd64)
- Wheezy grub-pc(amd64) and grub-efi(amd64).
