Custom kernel no longer builds initrd?

Hi everyone,

Trying to recompile my kernel from source, and Debian's kernel-package used to build initrds automatically with the following:

fakeroot make-kpkg --append-to-version=.2009xxyy --revision=00 --initrd kernel_image

... but now it doesn't. Have there been any changes in kernel-package that prevent this from happening ?
