problems reinstalling nvidia cards after crash of Xorg.conf compiz edit forced OS reinstall...
Dear Debianists,
I successfully installed and configured my nvidia card on my hp laptop. Everything was going well until I got too
ambitious and tried to install compiz. I edited the xorg.conf file to include the instructions to get compiz working
but when I rebooted X11 booted up gnome etc (but not compiz for some reason) and when I opened a root
terminal to try to edit the xorg.conf file to look for clues as to why the compiz didn't start the root terminal
turned completely blank and nothing I typed as commands appeared in the terminal window. I rebooted
many times but could not abolish this problem. I tried to stop xorg from working and hoped to able to get emacs
to work with no window manager and/or gdm working but I could not figure out how to do this. So I reinstalled
the entire OS. I then tried to reinstall the nvidia cards again. I thought this would be easy but it was not
I have used the same strategy as I did in the previous successful attempt but this failed.
Somehow apt can't find stuff in the same repositories that it could do a few days ago. I am puzzled as to why
this is the case.
I would appreciate people's comments on this.
Here is my latest output:
