Re: Opinions on ext3 vs XFS vs reiserfs for LAMP server

Just remember that XFS has a reputation for not handling unexpected
power-downs very well.

ext2/3 has legendary reliability, and a great armoury of repair tools.
Just beware that the mkfs doesn't have very sensible default settings.
And you might want to turn off the scheduled fscks.

Personally I've been using reiserfs for everything, pretty much since it
came out, because of it's performance advantages, and lack of scheduled
fscks. In the early days, it was less reliable, but I haven't had any
trouble with it for years.

Recently, due to the Reiser family troubles, I've switched to ext3 for
new installs.

Forgetting filesystems for a minute, take note that the best thing you
can do for your IO performance is not change to XFS, but to turn off
atimes if you possibly can.
