Re: wireless card

Now the network manager panel applet  says no network devices detected. when i go to desktop admin networking both cards are present. the password is visible in etc/network/interfaces. when i do iwconfig I get this:
iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 20.
Some things may be broken...

eth1      IEEE 802.11b/g  ESSID:"Joyce  Gibson Innis HotSpot"  Nickname:"Broadco m 4311"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency=2.462 GHz  Access Point: 00:09:92:01:38:A0
          Bit Rate=24 Mb/s   Tx-Power=18 dBm
          RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:XXXXXXXXXX   Security mode:open
Link Quality=66/100  Signal level=-65 dBm  Noise level=-71 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0
what program does it mean? thanks

Just be aware that bcm43xx is a hit or miss affair; my Broadcom 4318
worked with bcm43xx with kernel 2.6.18 but not with 2.6.20, and never
with WEP. There are various other reports of trouble with bcm43xx; YMMV
is particularly true here.

Thanks Ill try your suggestion in a while. Im writing this in windows, i need to reboot. I saw the above somewhere and  now Im worried!

whats the contents of /etc/network/interfaces?

by default the wireless keys are hex, to use a string you need to put
s:xxxxxxx
where xxxx is the pass-string
