Somehow I managed to install this driver. I can remember having some
problems like you. It could be, that I solved this by unsetting
"Loadable module support  --->  [ ]   Module versioning support
(EXPERIMENTAL)".

Kernel is 2.6.8 (using Debian Sarge).
