I do not have a preferences file - and did not set preferences in the config 
file. I tried that before, but was having dependency issues. Now I keep both 
stable and testing in sources.list and use the -t flag to determine what I 
want to install.

Mostly, I use -t stable for kde and related things, and go with etch for 
system utilities, etc.
