apps fonts configuration

Hi,

Xmms and Audacity have menu font extremely small and ugly almost unreadable, since they are gtk apps I *guess* that something is broken in gtk fonts configuration.
I take a look to xfs checking xlsfont output (i'm on sarge):

frank@darkstar:~$ xlsfonts |wc -l
3587

it gives a long list...

I rebuid fontconfig system cache:

root@darkstar:~# fc-cache -fvs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts": caching, 0 fonts, 2 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/type1": caching, 0 fonts, 1 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts": caching, 35 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/truetype": caching, 0 fonts, 2 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont": caching, 12 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-bitstream-vera": caching, 10 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts": caching, 0 fonts, 7 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc": caching, 55 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/util": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi": caching, 397 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1": caching, 9 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/encodings": caching, 0 fonts, 1 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/encodings/large": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi": caching, 397 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/local/share/fonts": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc": caching, 55 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi": caching, 397 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi": caching, 397 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1": caching, 9 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs
fc-cache: succeeded

then:

dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
dpkg-reconfigure defoma

All above seems ok to me, I didn't get error output message up to now.
What doesn't work and I don't know why are:

root@darkstar:~# fslsfonts -server darkstar:7100
fslsfonts: unable to open server "darkstar:7100"

it fails opening the server, but xfs is running:

root@darkstar:~# ps wax|grep xfs
1140 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/X11/xfs -daemon

and I collect garbage from fc-list command, here the output:

frank@darkstar:~$ fc-list
Nimbus Sans L:style=Regular Italic
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=Bold
/---- snip ----/
URW Gothic L:style=Book
Bitstream Vera Sans:style=Bold

Courier 10 Pitch:style=Italic
Bitstream Vera Serif:style=Roman
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=Bold Oblique
Bitstream Vera Sans:style=Bold Oblique
/---- snip ----/

I didn't realize yet where to start to solve the problem, I think is a gtk font stuff any help needed.

tnx!
