X server troubles



Hello,

I have trouble setting up a satisfying xorg configuration.

Main system components are:
MB Gigabyte K8NS with Nforce3 chipset
CPU Athlon64 3700
RAM Kingston 1GB
Graphics card GEForce FX 5500

I have installed the nvidia module with module assistant, and it worked. 
Before that, I had tried installing manually with the drivers from the nvidia 
site but the module was never recognized.

The problem now is that the X server aborts on a signal 11 error. The 
Xorg.0.log file is below  . Before it aborts, I can very briefly see the 
nvidia logo. I have also tried using a previous xorg.conf file from a 32-bit 
system without success.

I have searched this list archives without finding a similar error. If I did 
not look into the right places, thanks for pointing that to me. Thanks also 
for your help, I need all the advice I can get.
