vmware-e.x.p.-15576 and Debian/Sarge/amd64

Hello folks I have a working Debian/Sarge/amd64 system and I am very happy with it.  I have also installed a chroot 32-bit subsystem and have openoffice running fine on it.  So, I think I understand how this interface works as well.

I have obtained a beta version 5.5 of vmware that I would like to investigate on this system.  In particular, I want to install the 64-bit Windows-XP system and demonstrate a windows server in this mode on this linux system.  I have a few other 32-bit systems set up in this way and can run certain windows-only applications in this way.  I have been system-admin and a user Debian system for many years and also the same for vmware virtual machines.

Now to the problem:  vmware seems to install fine in 64-bit mode as it compiles, links, and loads under the 2.6.x kernels just fine (currently 2.6.13).  However, there is an incompatibility between the 32-bit interface to create a new virtual machine and the 64-bit installed system.  Here is the error message stream I get.  The last error message regarding the "ASSERT" is where it stops.
So, 1) how could I get rid of all the string conversion errors; and 2) what libraries do I need to install in what system (64-bit or 32-bit) to correct the ASSERT error, or 3) is this strictly a vmware bug ?  I have submitted tech support (30-day beta support) to correct the problem, but I do not seem to be getting much help due to the Debian distribution instead of RedHat or one of the other commercial distributions.

Also, please no flame on using Microsoft products as I have good reason to do so.

Thanks
