general protection and kernel > 2.6.9

Hi there, 

since kernel upgrade from 2.6.8/9 and higher i get this messages in
dmesg:

Someone has told that these are "normal" segfaults, but why? I don't
understand why these programs seem to segfault much often than with an
kernel 2.6.8 or 2.6.9. 

There seems no major Problem with the corresponding applications, in
this case it is cacti on an SUN V20z (SMP). 

Currently i test an 2.6.13-rc6 which seems to better perform than an
other kernel on this machine ... also i don't get any bad pmd messages,
therefore the above reports.

Can someone try to explain it to me? :)
