media:/ in kde 3.4.1 does not see my devices

I am running Debian amd64 sid with a 2.6.12 kernel. I installed kde
3.4.1 and I am a bit disappointed because the media:/ service does not
work properly for me, (whereas it works perfectly on my sid 32).

media:/ does not show for example my USB stick, and the CD icon on the
desktop is always present (even if there is no CD in the drive), and
does not change depending on the type of disc present (as it must be).
In konqueror, the url media:/ shows only devices in /etc/fstab but
does not say anything on what is mounted in /media/...

hal, udev, dbus-1, pmount, work perfectly, but there seems to be a
lack of communication between these tools and kde.

Has anyone experienced this already ? And do you know a solution to fix that ?
Thank you.
