Hi all,
I also have AV8, bios 1008.

i work most time in X, but start it via startx, and everything works
fine.
and some days ago i want to try display manager (xdm, gdm, kdm).

after installing gdm via apt-get, all work fine, but after reboot
keyboard locks (mouse still work, machine is accesible via network).
same results for xdm and kdm.

after little experimentation i found:
1. if X is started before mingetty in inittab, keyboard locks
(randomly).
2. if X is started manually ( startx, /etc/init.d/gdm start) after rc
scripts,  all work fine.

i beliеve this info may be helpful to find real problem
