Try using the following environment variables in your prompt.


HOSTTYPE=i386
MACHTYPE=i386-pc-linux-gnu

HOSTTYPE=x86_64
MACHTYPE=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu


I use HOSTTYPE and that way I can when I'm in a chroot.
