'gpm' is the general purpose mouse that provides a mouse on the text consoles. I find that useful and so I usually install and run it. I find that sometimes after a system boot that gpm is not running when I log into X11 on amd64. To restart it I CTRL-ALT-F1 to a text console, login as root, verify no gpm, /etc/init.d/gdm restart, ALT-F7 to get back to X11, and everything is fine. I never see it die at other times. It just does not seem to start sometimes. So it must have some race causing it to die early at system boot. No messages to the syslog. Anyone else seeing gpm problems on amd64? I am not seeing this on i686. I am using gpm-1.19.6-19 from the Alioth pure64 archive. Bob
