Yes AMD64 is definitively for you... I dont know about the ASUS MB, though. I use a MSI K8T NEO-FSR. Downloaded a D-I ISO-image, installed. NO hassle, right from the box... My Geforce FX 5600 was just a quick google, and it was 3D accelerated. So yes...I highly recommends it, and check out #debian-amd64 on irc.debian.org, there you find some of the guys porting this beauty.....
