The base-files package got updated last night resulting in the pure64
patch getting lost and completly breaking the system upn upgrade. We
decided to remove base-files from the archive to prevent upgrades
while it was getting fixed.
Maybe you tried to install at just that time. If you can check the
version of base-files it tried. If it ends in .pure64 it is another
problem.
