OpenOffice - 64 bit capability - status

Hi,

Porting effort is going on with the 2.0 series builds. It may be possible to make the 1.1.x series 64-bit clean but the patches probably won't get merged back into the tree :( They might, but the number of modules that the 64-bit stuff touches is just too large to guaruntee stability of the 1.1.x series. So, it was either make 1.1.x work and then have to do it all over again for 2.0, or make 2.0 work and live with 32-bit emulation for now.

The status is that the first stage is done and patches were committed to the cws_src680_ooo64bit01 child workspace, which has just gone into QA and will be merged with the master workspace soon. I expect it to be available in late June or early July on the master workspace, and then we'll be able to start stage 2. Modules _up to_ svtools have been successfully compiled under a 64-bit compiler, and svtools is next. It poses some unique issues, but I think they'll be OK. There's a lot of references to Long in the code too, which I hope to change since it would be quite confusing to see a variable type with "long" in it but have that variable be only 32 bits, which is the current approach.

So, until the new child workspace comes around in the next couple weeks, there's really not that much to do on the port. Check back in a bit?

Dan,
You're mentioned in the archive as responding to a query in February. There is no AMD64 port listed on the ports-under-development page, and I can't see a specific mailing list associated with it. Where can I find the status of it and/or help out ? Debian has just finished the pure64 port and, from my point of view, there are two lacks in terms of 64 bit support (1) the ATI proprietary X server where I can't help and (2) OOo ...
