The kernel does not use x86-64, it uses x86_64 just like gcc, which Debian can't use due to the way it breaks on filenames. However the fact that our names don't match the kernel is true in several other instances as well... Supported Linux Kernel archs: alpha arm arm26 cris h8300 i386 ia64 m68k m68knommu mips parisc - needs to be renamed from hppa? ppc - needs to be renamed from powerpc? ppc64 s390 sh sparc sparc64 um v850 x86_64 - needs to be renamed from amd64? As was already noted before both _ and - cause problems in various ways when used as part of the arch itself. Also the fact that the various debian tools can't deal with _ in the arch name. Chris
