maybe it was just redhat's patching, but there is a version of 2.4.26
modutils that will load modules, that might be a quick and dirty solution
to the problem.. The version that I found to work is here:
http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.6/SRPMS.kernel/modutils-2.4.26-9.src.rpm
