This issue has no longer shown since the alpha buildds were upgraded to a new
kernel which includes multiple fixes for multi-threading problems on alpha that
caused a lot of packages to fail in their testsuites.

I assume that this lock-up issue observed in the MariaDB testsuite was also a
result of the alpha kernel problems. I am therefore closing this bug.

Feel free to reopen it in case the issue shows again.
