Difficulty getting Alteon NIC to work on ES45
I'm in the process of preparing an ES45 for porting use by Debian
developers. The machine is essentially identical to goetz; it's a 4-
way 1.25 GHz ES45 with 8GB RAM.
It has three NICs, two Intel 100MBit and one Alteon GBit NIC. goetz
uses the Alteon, and I've been trying to configure the new machine
the same way, but for some reason the new machine is not recognising
the NIC. I get the following detection messages on the machine at
bootup:
acenic.c: v0.92 08/05/2002 Jes Sorensen, linux-acenic@SunSITE.dk
http://home.cern.ch/~jes/gige/acenic.html
0003:04:02.0: Alteon AceNIC Gigabit Ethernet at 0x601000000, irq 56
Tigon II (Rev. 6), Firmware: 12.4.11, MAC: 00:60:cf:21:72:50
PCI bus width: 64 bits, speed: 66MHz, latency: 248 clks
0003:04:02.0: Firmware NOT running!
Compared with goetz:
acenic.c: v0.92 08/05/2002 Jes Sorensen, linux-acenic@SunSITE.dk
http://home.cern.ch/~jes/gige/acenic.html
0003:04:02.0: Alteon AceNIC Gigabit Ethernet at 0x601000000, irq 56
Tigon II (Rev. 6), Firmware: 12.4.11, MAC: 00:60:cf:21:8b:e0
PCI bus width: 64 bits, speed: 66MHz, latency: 248 clks
0003:04:02.0: Firmware up and running
So the firmware version in both cards is identical. The kernel
running on both machines is identical. Both are running etch. I'm
mystified! Anyone got any clues?
Tim
