ping 0.000 ms

Hi!

So, here we have two alphas running Debian Sarge, an AlphaStation XP1000 (EV67 666MHz) and an AlphaServer ES40 (4xEV67 666MHz), both with similar installs. The XP1000 has a 2.4.27-2-generic kernel and the ES40 has 2.4.27-2-smp.

Problem is, on the ES40 every ping to any host on the local network gives back an RTT of 0.000 ms...

On the XP1000 ping gives the appropriate small values as expected.

So, what's going on here? I've tried googling and didn't find any explanation (although I found some things that tell me that I'm not the first seeing this issue).
